Coffee – a photo essay

I was combing through some photos from earlier in the year, when I found this series of Coffee.  I’ve been meaning to do something with them, as they are such a clear example of how horses try to communicate with us (and I like how they portray the relationship he has with his ‘mom’).  So, just for fun, with my translations of Coffee’s ‘words’ …

“Hello people!  I think it is time for me to go in now!”

“Here is my halter.  Please put it on me now.”

“Stop messing around, please.  I want to go in!”

“At last you’ve come!”

“Ahh … nothing like a good face rub!”

“Sigh … it’s nice to have an obedient human.”

Be good to your horses!  And be sure to listen to what they try to tell you!

  1. I can’t tell you how often I think that our horses seem to be thinking “Good lord, these people are stupid! How obvious can I make it that I want my grain NOW/want this gate open/want this rope untied/want to eat the grassover there…”

  2. Ha, ha … I know what you mean, Andrea. If you listen enough to encourage their attempts to communicate, they seem to have a lot to say … and we’re not always so quick at catching on! 😉
